I don't know about you but there are certain people I dread calling me. Not just salesmen or people doing surveys either, but often friends or ex-girlfriends I can't be bothered to listen to. Step forward CallFireWall, a program that lets you automatically screen your incoming calls so that only the people you actually don't mind speaking to can get through. It sounds a bit sneaky, but I reckon it's less rude than just hanging up on people. There are four different ways of filtering calls, and all are accessible from the same drop-down menu. You can choose to set up a Blacklist, whereby you can select numbers that will be blocked from getting through to you. Instead when they call, they will be sent straight to your answerphone. Alternatively, the Whitelist feature lets you pick the numbers that you want to get through and no others will be allowed to call you. A useful one for fending off cold-callers is the 'My contacts only' option, where just people in your contacts book will be able to make your phone ring. Finally, there's a 'reject all calls' setting, for when you're feeling anti-social. There are a number of other cool settings, including the ability to filter incoming SMS messages and reply with a default SMS to ones you don't want to get through. It would have been nice to have a few more options such as the ability to personalise ringtones or handle profiles though. Nevertheless, CallFireWall is still a useful way of filtering out calls you don't want to take.
